Sue Kaufman, Executive Director of Urban Medical Group

Sue became Executive Director of Urban Medical Group (UMG) in 2006. UMG’s mission to provide “a lifetime of compassionate, continuous, high-quality primary care to adults” greatly appealed to Sue, who had already dedicated her career to connecting communities and disadvantaged populations with quality healthcare. In the complex and sophisticated medical arena of Greater Boston, UMG, like Hearth, fills a vital need for quality care and service that can be easily accessed by those priced out of the health care mainstream.

Prior to joining UMG, Sue was Chief Operations Office of the Health and Human Services Division of ACS, Inc. Before that, she was founder and principal of Benova, a company that provided services to health and human-services agencies in 15 states, including an outreach initiative to aged, blind, and disabled Medicaid clients in rural Oklahoma. UMG, a nonprofit organization, is committed to the service of the most complex patients – many of them the same frail, chronically ill elders served by Hearth.

“Joining Hearth’s Board of Visitors strengthens the relationship between Hearth and UMG,” said Sue. “Both organizations are dedicated to providing innovative and quality care to underserved populations. Hearth finds and provides housing for homeless elders, and UMG can help get those elders the high quality health care they need.”
