Extreme Makeover: Boston Edition

Hearth and WCVB-TV Channel 5 partnered to do an Extreme Makeover, renovating Hearth's first home for formerly homeless elders. It began on Friday, February 25, 2005 and continued through Monday, February 28, 2005. Volunteers and donors throughout the community worked side-by-side to completely refurbish a new kitchen and revamp other rooms throughout the historic Victorian home located in Jamaica Plain.

extreme makeoverThe award-winning house opened its doors in 1992 and became home to nine formerly homeless senior ladies; three of those original residents still live here. The home was designed for communal living, and the women share kitchen and living room spaces while enjoying the privacy of their own rooms. However, the ladies of Bishop Street spend so much time together cooking meals or assembling jigsaw puzzles that it became necessary to add on a great room in addition to redesigning and enlarging the kitchen and living room.

Extreme Makeover: Boston Edition was highlighted in short spots on Channel 5 as well as news segments aired throughout the renovation process.
